Mission Statement
• Our
Mission...
Housing Opportunities, Inc. (HOI) helps low- and moderate-income
individuals and families achieve and maintain affordable homeownership.
• Who We Are...
Since our inception in 1975, we have worked to address the
specific barriers that have hindered economic stability and
independence for those living in distressed communities. We
provide the needed individualized comprehensive housing counseling
and education, access to community resources, and discounted
mortgage loans that are both flexible and affordable. Our
mortgage loans are tailored to meet each family’s financial
circumstances that will ensure affordable mortgage loans and
successful long-term homeownership. Moreover, our loans are
designed for our target population whose income is 80% or
less of the median income range as described by the Department
of Housing and Urban Development. In addition, we have partnerships
with several local lenders who provide primary mortgage loans
at discounted interest rates.
• Annual Objectives...
Notwithstanding our successful 29 year track record of accomplishments,
the need for affordable housing remains great for under-resourced
families and communities in the Pittsburgh region and surrounding
communities. Many of our families have multiple problems that
prevent them from obtaining homeownership. Some have excessive
debt, credit problems, or little knowledge of basic home maintenance.
In addition, we provide housing counseling and referral resources
to families who are behind in their mortgage payments.
HOI addresses these problems with the following annual objectives:
· To help under-resourced families secure and maintain
homeownership in the Pittsburgh region and surrounding communities.
· To offer first-time homebuyers educational services
on homeownership and money management.
· To promote homeownership counseling and discounted
financing for economically and credit-challenged families
who are unable to secure prime rate mortgages on their own.
· To provide comprehensive counseling services to families
who are facing foreclosure on their home. In addition to mortgage
default counseling, we provide additional community resource
referrals to assist family needs.
